The narrative returns to Molly’s point of view and the moment that Adam recognizes Georgia as Eloise. Molly is overcome with dizziness as she realizes that her mother, whom she believed died on 9/11, is alive and has been a quiet presence in her life for months. Back home, Jesse comforts Molly as she grapples with the feeling that her life has been a lie.
Georgia slips a letter through Molly’s mail slot, having obtained her address from her patient file, which is a HIPAA violation. The letter says that Eloise decided to leave to protect Molly and asks for a chance to explain. Molly ignores calls from her father and stepmother, but she speaks with her friend Tabs, who encourages Molly to give her mother a second chance because she would give anything to have her father back.
On Christmas Day, Evie claims to Molly that Eloise had PPP after Molly’s birth and that she witnessed Eloise holding baby Molly face down in the bathtub. This event, Evie explains, led them to schedule an appointment for Eloise with a psychiatrist in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Adam confirms Evie’s account of Eloise’s mental illness, explaining that they hid the truth to protect Molly from the trauma.
