On New Year’s Eve, Garrett and Jennie engage in playful banter and a sexual encounter before heading to a party at Carter and Olivia’s house. At the party, Jennie flirts with Garrett’s teammate Jaxon to make him jealous, and Cara teases Garrett about it. Garrett and Carter team up for beer pong against Jennie and Olivia but are soundly defeated in two games; in the rematch, Olivia fakes her water breaking to distract Carter, who looks away and misses the final shot.

As midnight approaches, Garrett notices Jennie looks overwhelmed by the crowd. He leads her upstairs to a private room, where they share an intense midnight kiss that quickly escalates. As they leave the room, Cara and Adam discover them. Cara agrees to keep the secret on the condition that it was a one-time thing. Back in their own building, Jennie calls Garrett her best friend and admits that she is afraid of losing him. He promises he will always be there for her.

Garrett and his teammates participate in a photoshoot for a suit brand designed for athletes. The photographer, a woman named Susie, flirts with Garrett, and Carter encourages him to ask her out. When Carter teases him about a groin pull, Garrett lies and says he slipped on ice to hide that the injury is from his time with Jennie.

Later, at a Disney karaoke night at Carter’s house, Carter announces that Garrett got Susie’s phone number. Jennie becomes visibly upset and gives Garrett the silent treatment for the rest of the evening. On the tense drive home, Garrett convinces her to hold his hand. At her apartment door, Jennie tells him they need to end their arrangement if he starts dating someone else. Garrett reassures her that he already deleted Susie’s number and has no interest in anyone else. He calls her his “sunshine” and kisses her.

During a dance lecture, Jennie feels ostracized when Krissy plans a night out with their peers and excludes her. Simon pressures Krissy into inviting her, but when Jennie reveals she doesn’t drink, Krissy dismissively says “Guess we’ll see you on Monday then” and walks away (233). Krissy comments that Jennie was only recommended for the Toronto teaching job because of Carter’s fame. She calls Jennie “vanilla” and predictable.

Deeply hurt, Jennie leaves school in tears. The weather has become snowy and icy, making driving conditions dangerous. Blinded by her crying and struggling with the slippery road, Jennie skids at an intersection and crashes Carter’s car into a stop sign.

While hanging out with teammates, Garrett deflects questions about why he hasn’t called Susie. He vaguely admits to Cara that he is seeing someone. Soon after, Jennie calls him in distress from the parking garage at their apartment building. He rushes to her and finds her upset about the large dent in Carter’s car.

Garrett devises an unusual plan: He has Jennie retrieve her suction-cup dildo, “Indiana Bones.” He uses the suction cup to pop the dent out of the bumper. Relieved, Jennie breaks down and tells him about Krissy’s cruel remarks. Garrett comforts her, reaffirming her talent and worth. Seeing her continued distress, Garrett calls Carter and gets his permission to take her out for the evening to distract her.

Garrett takes Jennie to his favorite Indian restaurant and then on a festive train ride through a light display in Stanley Park. Afterward, they go to a movie, where Jennie becomes visibly distressed upon seeing a group of men. One of them, a man named Kevin, approaches and reveals himself to be her ex-boyfriend, making her uncomfortable with his lewd comments. Garrett becomes fiercely protective, shoves Kevin, and threatens him to stay away from Jennie before pulling her from the theater.

Back at Garrett’s penthouse, Jennie tells him she wants to have sex. Garrett gently refuses, explaining that he doesn’t want her to use sex as a reaction to the encounter. Instead, they have oral sex, and after she falls asleep, he films a short video of her smiling. When she wakes and discovers the video, she becomes furious. The ensuing argument ends with Jennie storming out, claiming she is better off alone.

Regretting her actions, Jennie spends a sleepless night, and at dawn, she returns to Garrett’s apartment to apologize. He welcomes her in, and she finally tells him the full story of her ex-boyfriend, Kevin. She explains that after her father’s death, she dated Kevin in high school, and he pressured her for sex. While drunk and grieving at a party, she consented. However, Kevin had secretly arranged for his football teammates to enter the room and record them. The videos were circulated at school the next day, leading to her being publicly humiliated and ostracized. The experience left her with trust issues, and she has not had sex since.

Garrett listens patiently and comforts her, affirming her worth and promising he is nothing like Kevin. He tells her he will always be her safe place to land. Exhausted, Jennie falls asleep in his arms. Later, Carter arrives because photos from the theater incident appeared online, and he couldn’t reach Jennie by phone; Garrett tells him that Jennie came to talk and fell asleep. Later, Jennie resolves to take a leap of faith and pursue a real relationship with Garrett.

While Garrett is away for a hockey game, Jennie watches with Olivia and Cara and feels a pang of jealousy seeing female fans with signs for him. The three women have a sleepover, and Olivia admits she selfishly hopes Jennie won’t take the job in Toronto. When the hockey players return to Vancouver, they meet Jennie, Cara, and Olivia at an exclusive club.

Garrett is possessive, and Jennie dances with Jaxon to tease him. A professional soccer player flirts with Jennie, and she feels a moment of disappointment when Garrett tells him they are not a couple. Garrett comforts her by secretly holding her pinky under the table. Later, he pulls her into a hidden alcove for a passionate kiss, which Jaxon accidentally witnesses. Jaxon promises to keep their secret.

Back at Jennie’s apartment, sexual tension erupts. Garrett blurts out in a flustered, hyperbolic way that he thinks he loves her in that moment, though neither treats it as a solemn declaration. Afterward, he holds her and tenderly talks about the day they will have sex for real. 

Later, Garrett tells Jennie he bought a ticket for her upcoming dance recital. He then asks her on a real Valentine’s Day date after the recital, and she happily agrees. As he gets ready to leave, they hesitate, both wanting him to stay but unwilling to break their “no sleepovers” rule.
