Vale is a centuries-old, winged Rishan vampire who lives in self-imposed exile in an intimidating mansion near Adcova. Formerly a high-ranking general in the House of Night, he now spends his days in isolation, surrounded by hoarded knowledge, weapons, and artifacts. Though initially cynical and dismissive of Lilith's mortal urgency, he finds his curiosity reawakened by her boldness and intellect.

Thomassen is the head priest of Vitarus in Adcova and a long-time friend of Lilith's family. He ministers to the terrified, plague-ridden townspeople, offering orthodox religious comfort to those suffering. However, his deep-seated fear and religious bigotry toward vampires push him toward dangerous fanaticism.

Vitarus is the god of abundance and decay from the White Pantheon. A being of immense, amoral power, he views humanity with profound boredom and divine indifference. His retaliation against Adcova establishes the central conflict of the narrative, demonstrating the devastating consequences of angering a deity.

Mina is Lilith's frail younger sister, whose worsening condition from the town's dust-inducing plague provides the ticking clock for Lilith's research. Unlike her pragmatic and detached older sibling, Mina seeks emotional comfort and relies on traditional faith to cope with her suffering.

Farrow is a brilliant scholar and Lilith's former lover who operates within the conventional, religiously approved boundaries of science. Horrified by Lilith's association with a vampire and her heretical methods, he urges her to seek safer, orthodox solutions.

Lilith's father was a farmer in Adcova who desperately tried to care for his sickly daughter after his wife's death. When a devastating frost ruined his crops, his desperate actions incurred the wrath of a god, making him the first victim of the resulting plague.
