Discussion/Analysis Prompt

In The Energy Bus, George uses the resources given to him by Joy and her passengers to help turn his life around. Describe how each of the 10 Energy Bus rules contributes to a happy and healthy workplace. Why is each rule important to achieving the desired goal for George’s team? What obstacles initially stand in the way of George achieving his goal, and what does he do to overcome them? What advice would you give someone who is in a similar situation?

Teaching Suggestion: Students may have difficulty analyzing the entire text and the questions at the same time. Consider providing students with a list of the 10 rules and allowing them to review the text and their reading questions as a reference guide to assist them. Students may also find that using a T-chart can help them organize their thoughts; for example, they might write the rules in the left column and notes citing text examples for each rule in the right column.

Differentiation Suggestion: For students who require additional assistance to focus their thoughts or for those who might benefit from reduced requirements, you might have them discuss how one of the three themes is represented in the book.
