Activities

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Artimé’s New Student”

In this activity, students will describe what it would be like to be invited to attend the school in Artimé.

Part A: Pretend you have been selected to attend the school in Artimé. Introduce yourself and demonstrate your creative skills in a brief presentation to your peers to illustrate your abilities in the new school. Draw inspiration from the novel to demonstrate your skill (for example, you might create a song about Artimé, or draw a picture of a creature in Artimé).

Part B:  After your brief presentation, answer the questions below to describe your experience in Artimé. Connect details from The Unwanteds to explain and illustrate your experience. Use the questions below to guide your thinking:

  • What creative skill did you demonstrate? How does this skill prove you belong in Artimé (drawing, dancing, music, etc.)?
  • What was your life like before going to Artimé?
  • Who did you meet in Artimé and who is your best friend?
  • Describe what you did to be banished from Quill.
  • What is the creative skill you possess that qualifies you for the school in Artimé?
  • Explain what role you would play in the battle against Quill.
