Alizeh is an 18-year-old Jinn with rare frost magic and clear, icy blood. Previously hidden as an impoverished attendant in Ardunia, she now faces intense public scrutiny as the prophesied queen of her people. She evaluates a marriage proposal from King Cyrus while managing the expectations of the Jinn seeking her leadership. She possesses strong self-healing capabilities and a physical aversion to dark magic.
Cyrus is the 21-year-old king of Tulan. He possesses reddish-copper hair and habitually wears austere black robes instead of royal finery. Though the public views him as a cruel murderer who uses black magic, he actually trained as a Diviner before making a secret, painful bargain with the devil. Cyrus endures constant physical and psychological torment to fulfill this debt.
Kamran is the 18-year-old crown prince of Ardunia. He bears a striking golden vein that splits his left eye. Arrogant but dedicated to his political duty, he travels to Tulan with a small entourage to avenge the assassination of his grandfather. He intends to kill Cyrus and secure Alizeh for his own political and romantic ambitions, though his impulsive anger often clouds his judgment.
Hazan is a powerfully built Jinn who serves as Kamran’s minister and close aide. He has iron-colored eyes, freckled skin, and carries three crystal daggers on his belt. Known for his blunt honesty, he frequently corrects Kamran’s impulsive behavior and refuses to bow to unearned authority. He swears deep loyalty to Alizeh as the savior of his people.
Miss Huda is an aristocratic young woman traveling with Kamran’s party. Raised in a restrictive environment by her stepmother, she embraces the freedom of their journey to Tulan. She provides a chatty, humorous presence but harbors a strong distrust of Cyrus and his dramatic magical displays. She remains fiercely loyal to Alizeh.
Iblees is a powerful, supernatural Jinn cast out of heaven for refusing to bow to humans. He operates as the story's primary antagonistic force, appearing to Cyrus as a whisper in dark, surreal visions. He offers rulers their desires in exchange for terrible, corrupting costs, treating human suffering as a game.
Deen is a tall, wiry apothecary from Ardunia. He maintains a quiet and serious demeanor while traveling with Kamran's group. A loyal friend to Alizeh, he previously kept her Jinn identity a secret and continues to support her in Tulan, where Cyrus grants him access to magic for mixing potions.
Omid is a 12-year-old former street orphan from the Fesht province who speaks Feshtoon. He attempts to rob Alizeh during an earlier encounter, but her subsequent kindness and offer of food prompt him to reform. He now idolizes her and travels with Kamran's group, enjoying regular meals and safety for the first time in his life.
Queen Sarra is Cyrus’s mother. She has coppery hair and maintains a regal, authoritative presence in Tulan. She openly resents Cyrus, believing he murdered his father, and treats her son with shocking indifference. She prioritizes political expediency over family loyalty, quickly agreeing to marriage alliances and assassination plots if they serve her kingdom.
King Reza is the former king of Tulan and Cyrus's father. Iblees holds him captive in a putrid, flesh-draped cave, having taken his eyes. He originally urged Cyrus to accept the devil's bargain, entirely underestimating the horrific consequences the deal would bring.
King Zaal is Kamran’s late grandfather and the former ruler of Ardunia. He secured an unnaturally long life through a dark pact with Iblees, feeding on the brains of orphans to sustain himself. Cyrus assassinated him publicly, setting off the central political conflict of the series.
Rostam is an elderly, compassionate Diviner and Cyrus’s former teacher. He guides Cyrus in meditation and magic during the prince's youth. After Cyrus makes his deal with Iblees, Rostam sadly bars him from taking the vows of priesthood, understanding that Cyrus must walk a darker path for his people.
Former Teacher of Cyrus
Kaveh is an enormous dragon bonded to Cyrus. He communicates telepathically with the king and carries out his commands. He disapproves of Cyrus's devotion to Alizeh, suspecting her of being tied to the devil, but remains obedient out of deep loyalty.
Simorgh is a magnificent, fabled bird with a wingspan as wide as a room. Resembling a phoenix, she answers Kamran's summons via a special feather and carries his party safely across the sky to Tulan.
Summoned by Kamran
Dija is an elderly Jinn woman. She steps into a leadership role for the 70,000 Jinn seeking sanctuary in Tulan. She organizes the crowds and leads them in daily chants for justice while they wait for their queen to awaken.
