Chapter 26 Summary

Stewart brings Dolly to his home, where they are greeted by his annoyed German housekeeper, Helena. Stewart demonstrates his affection for Dolly by telling Helena about her preference for tea with milk and honey, and he calls Helena “the greatest breakfast chef in America” (249). After having sex in his bedroom, they are late for breakfast. Later, while Stewart works in his den, Dolly researches commercial ovens for a hypothetical bakery. After Helena enters the doorway and finds them lying together on the sofa, Dolly returns home. Her father notices her swollen lips and expresses concern that Stewart is an “awfully big catch” (252). Dolly confides in Naomi that the experience was intense and perfect. That night, Stewart texts from her driveway, unable to stay away. He joins her on the sleeping porch and stays the night. As they lay together, they begin planning how they would renovate the porch together.

Chapter 27 Summary

Stewart takes Dolly, Gus, and Clay to a Red Sox versus Yankees game via helicopter. They watch from a luxury suite before moving to front-row seats near player Howie Carver. When Patsy sees them on television and texts Dolly, Dolly lies that Gus won the tickets in a raffle.
