Chapter 10 Summary: “Hallie”

Hallie arrives at Rio’s house for their first design meeting feeling anxious. Rio opens the door shirtless, revealing a new tattoo and flustering her. Inside, he makes her a vanilla almond milk latte, remembering that that was her usual order, though a tense call from his father briefly interrupts them. They resume the meeting with Rio playing music to revive their old tradition of linking songs to memories and share a playful, physically close moment during a tour of his bedroom. The meeting ends early when Rio’s friends Indy, Stevie, Miller, and Kennedy arrive and invite Hallie to his hockey game. Rio answers for her and claims that she’s busy, which he regrets when Hallie lets him assume that she has a date.

Chapter 11 Summary: “Rio”

After his game, Rio goes to a bar with his team, still bothered by thoughts of Hallie on a date. He’s stunned to find Hallie working behind the bar. A teammate tries to set him up on a date, and Hallie assumes that Rio and the other woman are together. Rio follows Hallie to the bar, asks why she’s working there, and embarrasses her by offering to give her money. When a male coworker asks Hallie if she’s all right and puts his hand on her hip, Rio grows jealous and nearly starts a fight.
