Rush Revere, Liberty, Tommy, and Freedom arrive at Plymouth Plantation after the snow has begun to melt. While Freedom communicates non-verbally with a deer, the group observes the small settlement, which consists of seven houses and four larger buildings, including a Common House. They encounter a teenage boy, Francis Billington, whom Tommy recognizes as the troublemaker who nearly blew up the Mayflower. Francis arrogantly demands to ride Liberty and asks for a stick to make the horse go faster. In response, Liberty bucks Francis off, sending him crashing through the thatched roof of a nearby house.

The group then meets Governor William Bradford, who appears much older and more exhausted than when they last saw him. A bell rings, signaling the approach of a Native American. Bradford orders the Pilgrims not to fire their muskets. The man introduces himself as Samoset. He explains in broken English that he learned the language from fishermen and that this harbor, called Patuxet, was struck by a great plague that killed many of his people.
