Chapter 44 Summary: “Cameron”

Cameron recalls mourning for Samkiel, his family, and Xavier, as he watched the silver energy—all that remained of Samkiel’s power—drift through the sky.

Cameron thinks further back to a time he pitched a dual-blade fighter to Samkiel for The Hand. Samkiel agreed to hold tryouts but required Cameron and Logan to participate as well. Cameron found Xavier (who was his only friend) in the city center and relayed the news. Cameron privately acknowledged he was partly motivated by guilt in helping Xavier find a new family.

Back in the present, Cameron gazes over a fearful city under Nismera’s rule and wonders what he is supposed to do without Samkiel.

Chapter 45 Summary: “Vincent”

Vincent leads nearly 100 soldiers through a portal into Flagerun’s snowy mountains, then closes the portal with a gauntlet crafted by an inventor named Quill. He reflects that Nismera’s concern for his safety feels hollow compared to the genuine care he now recognizes from Camilla and his former family.

His second-in-command, Abbie, flags the unnatural silence—they should be hearing skyrippers, the ferocious winged beasts native to the mountain. They climb to a leveled clearing and see that the prison has been reduced to rubble. Before they can retreat, a massive stone formation shifts and a red eye opens: It is Dianna in her enormous Ig’Morruthen form.
