Cameron wakes in a cell, overwhelmed to find Samkiel alive. Attempting to stand, Cameron tears open the wounds in his back, and Samkiel rushes to his side. Dianna stops him from healing Cameron further, warning that he has nearly exhausted his power and is still weakened from his death wound. When asked about Nismera’s location, Cameron finds his memory entirely blank. Samkiel theorizes that a memory-erasing spell guards her stronghold. Because Cameron is still bound to Kaden, who made him an Ig’Morruthen, Dianna keeps him imprisoned. Relieved, Cameron finally begins to feel safe.
Past midnight, hunger drives Cameron to burn his hands on the bars. Dianna brings blood and he feeds desperately, feeling an involuntary, primal attraction, which she dismisses as a symptom of his transformation, promising to teach him to feed without killing once it passes. He confesses two sources of guilt. First, his unspoken love for Xavier triggered a fight between them that drove Xavier away into Kaden’s hands. Second, years earlier, Cameron skipped a mission to sleep off a hangover and unknowingly sent Xavier’s sister, Kryella, to her death in his place.
