Part 2, Chapter 10 Summary: “Sienna: Chapter One”

A scream awakens Sienna in the middle of the night. She, Malcolm, and the other authors—Jaxon, Priscilla, Kenzo, and Cate—gather in the hallway to find a terrified Millie. Inside Millie’s room, a sheet of paper in her typewriter reads “GET OUT.” Sienna immediately suspects that Jaxon is playing a prank, as he seems amused by the situation. The mood darkens when Millie insists that her bedroom door was locked, leaving the group to wonder how someone got inside.

Malcolm types the same message on Millie’s typewriter and discovers a difference: The “G” on the original note is misaligned, but the “G” on her typewriter is in line. The note was typed on a different machine. Cate suggests that they collect writing samples from all the typewriters in the house to find the culprit. Jaxon refuses, arguing that it’s an invasion of privacy and that he could be framed. Priscilla postpones the investigation until morning, and the group disperses.

Part 2, Interlude 1 Summary: “Interstitial”

This interlude features an unsent cover letter from Millie to a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) fiction program, found on an old laptop. In it, she discusses her semi-autobiographical novel in progress, The Weight of Dreams, which is inspired by her restrictive religious upbringing.
