At a bar in Boston, Massachusetts, professional hockey player John “Logan” Logan eavesdrops on three men betting on their chances of getting women’s numbers. Amused, Logan joins their game, wagering $200 that he can get a specific woman at the bar to kiss him within five minutes. He approaches the woman, and they begin a flirty exchange as he attempts to win the wager. After an increasingly flirtatious conversation, the woman kisses him passionately, winning him the bet. As Logan leaves with her, intending to have sex in the restroom, he tells the stunned men to keep their money. It’s then revealed that the entire scene has been a pre-arranged role-playing exercise; the woman is his long-term girlfriend, Grace Ivers, with whom he has a history dating back to her freshman year of college. Rather than collecting the money, Logan leaves it behind, considering himself the luckiest man in the bar.
On Christmas Eve, Logan changes the oil in the car of Grace’s father, Tim. A package for Grace arrives from an anonymous Boston PO box. Inside, they find a note that reads, “I missed you” (15), and a creepy antique porcelain doll.
