Chapter 12 Summary

While traveling hidden in the toxic waste container, Azure demands that Jasa reveal who is trying to kill her. She agrees to tell him everything if he, in return, honestly answers all her questions until they reach Themis. Azure accepts the deal. When asked about his favorite memory, he recounts the last time he saw his father happy: the day Resolution “Ten-O-Ten,” a law legalizing the killing of immortal “lifers,” was passed. He reveals his father died from an AMRoN necrovirus outbreak, and that his mother also died, when he was six.

Jasa then asks what he remembers about the incident in Oceanus. Azure explains that his last protection job there ended when a bomb killed his client and nearly killed him as well. His employers, the Keres, spent eight months reconstructing him and gave him a new identity as Azure. At that point, Jasa reveals she knows the truth about the bombing, confirming that the official story blaming a group called Talios for the bombing is false.

Chapter 13 Summary

Continuing her interrogation, Jasa asks Azure why he hates lifers. He corrects her, stating he does not hate them but kills them for payment because it is his profession.
