As Mathias begins to yell, Eric wakes up, the vines moving across him. He feels them inside the wound on his stomach and the one on his leg. He calls for Stacy to get the knife, while Jeff runs outside to Mathias.
Jeff finds Mathias crouched over Amy. He immediately knows that she is dead. He finds the vines covering her mouth and throat. He remembers the night before, watching her stand up to vomit and holding her hand over her mouth. He blames himself for not checking on her, knowing now that the vines were blocking her airway and her vomit. He begins performing CPR despite Mathias’s insistence that it’s too late. He only stops when Stacy emerges, calling for help for Eric.
In the tent, Eric asks for Mathias to cut him open. Mathias insists that it’s too dark and that they need to wait until morning. Eric points to the vines moving inside him, but Mathias assures him that it is just swelling from his injuries. He tells Eric that Amy has died, causing him to fall silent and wait.
