Rosie, Amy, and Steve arrive at Vern’s villa in Tuscany, where they’re met by Vern’s bodyguard Korbin. Vern, a man in his early fifties, explains that his business involves selling fake health supplements and vitamins online—an enterprise he describes as “shadowy” but not strictly illegal. He has hired the team because his junior bodyguard, Esteban, was found shot dead on his property. A threatening note, signed by a business rival named Jakob Eriksson, was left with the body.
Vern insists that Eriksson, who deals in more dangerous fake medications, is a friend and wouldn’t harm him, dismissing the note as a smokescreen. He recounts how he, Eriksson, and four others divided the global market years ago in Las Vegas, Nevada. Of the six, only Vern, Eriksson, and an American named Tommy Griffin are still alive. Vern claims that Eriksson killed the other three. Instead of pursuing Eriksson, Vern directs the team to investigate two other suspects: Tommy, who has been violating their territory agreement, and Georgie Glazier, Vern’s ex-wife, who recently contacted him asking for money.
Tommy Griffin lands in Palm Springs, California, in his private jet. He has just returned from a successful but risky trip to Ireland, where he secured a new, cheap supply of Viagra.
