Emmy demands to know how long Hannah and Jackson have been seeing each other. Their contradictory answers lead to an explanation that they kissed once at Christmas and again just now, and Jackson admits that he asked Hannah to keep it quiet.
The confrontation is cut short when a crack of thunder signals the storm intensifying. The sail tent rips off, and they spot Ben tied to the metal mast, screaming for help. Jackson carries a protesting Emmy below deck for life vests while Hannah goes to free Ben alone. While Hannah struggles with the knots, Jackson reappears, puts a life vest on Hannah, and cuts Ben free. A massive wave hits before they can get below; Jackson grabs the mast with one arm and holds Hannah with the other.
Emmy screams from the cabin. Hannah sends Jackson to check on her and turns to Ben—who attacks, trying to rip the life vest from her body. He tackles her, drives her face into the deck, and threatens to take the vest by force. Emmy bursts out of the hatch, seizes Ben by the hair, and slams his head into the cabin wall, dropping him.
Jackson orders everyone inside, but Hannah retrieves the emergency flotation device and brings it to Jackson, who secures it to Ben before he can be abandoned on deck.
