Birdie wakes Cassie and Nick, insisting that Bobby is awake in the hospital. Cassie is skeptical, but Anna calls moments later to confirm it. At the hospital, Birdie climbs onto Bobby’s bed and delivers a “message,” telling Bobby that Alina was never angry with her and is glad she built a good life. The news initially shocks Bobby, causing her heart monitor to alarm, but it ultimately brings her a deep sense of peace.

Afterward, Bobby apologizes to Cassie and Anna for having buried the painful parts of her past, acknowledging that in doing so, she also hid the good memories. She then asks Cassie to fulfill a promise she made long ago to her first love, Pavlo: to write down her story and share it with the world so that the atrocities she survived are never forgotten. In May 1933, as spring arrives, the collective farm reopens, offering meager rations of soup and bread. Katya, Kolya, and Halya survive by working on the farm and foraging for extra food.
