Rey Stjerne is the protagonist of Fallen Gods, a dynamic and round character whose journey is defined by the conflict between imposed duty and the desire for self-determination. Raised under the tyrannical thumb of her father, Odin, Rey is introduced as a highly trained, perceptive, and resentful young woman. Her primary motivation is to free her stepmother, Laufey, from Odin’s control, a mission that forces her to act as his “final chess piece” (19) in an ancient war. This dynamic positions her as a direct subject of the theme, The Weaponization of Familial Duty, as Odin manipulates her loyalty to her mother figure to coerce her into a dangerous quest. Despite being conditioned for violence and cunning, Rey resents her role, viewing the power she wields, such as her Aethercall, as a curse that prevents genuine connection. Her internal thoughts reveal a deep-seated fury toward her father and a longing for a life free from his shadow.
Rey’s strategic mind is one of her greatest assets. She is not merely a soldier following orders; she is an analyst who quickly deduces the complexities of her situation at Endir University.
